A little bit about MTC life for Justin

Thanks for the support, emails, questions, and comments about my experience as a mom with sons serving LDS missions. It is hard to say goodbye.

And he is off, Justin

What a crazy emotional few weeks it has been. Justin entered the MTC Wednesday where he will study the Cebuano language for eight weeks then he will head over to Cebu, Philippines.

Here are some photos.

My 80's hair, and countdown to the MTC!

I have been scanning and uploading photos in an attempt to do some archiving, and oh wow, it has been interesting to look back.

Check out my serious big permed hair! Yes it was the 80's and that is how we did things. These photos are all from my college days. (isn't my sister Laurie so cute?)

Big News: Justin going to spend the next two years in

Hard to believe that I am doing this again so soon, but I am so proud of the choices both of my oldest sons have made to give of their time to do something they believe in, serving a two year missison.. In July of 2010 my oldest son Taylor, left to serve a two year proselytizing LDS mission in Montreal, Canada.

Now Justin, my second son, has also chosen to serve a mission for our church.

It is helpful to know he doesn't get to choose where he goes,

It could be anywhere from Reno, Nevada (close to us), Washington, New Zealand, Brazil, or Canada. There are over 300 missions throughout the world.

So

He receieved his mission call yesterday and learned that he will be serving in the Cebu mission in the Phillipines. WHAT?

Cebu map

YES- He is so excited!! He will study for eight weeks at the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah, then travel to Cebu where he will be speaking Cebuano. The next two months will be filled with preparation and anticipation for his journey. He enters the MTC the middle of May.

Wow-I am experiencing so many emotions, mostly excitement and apprehension, with a huge does of pride. After he leaves is when it will hit me that he is gone and then the adjusting will start. It will be hard on me I know that now. Anytime your kids grow and leave home it is hard.

We had a family celebration yesterday and I took some photos- everyone was a bit grumpy because I had to shoot outside and it was cold. I am thrilled with how these turned out and am excited to share.

Justin surprised us all!!

Seriously this kid is amazing- he had to work extra extra hard his senior year to make up credits and Kent and I were both worried he would not finish. What an amazing kid to come from so far behind and get it done!
