Welcome to the Giving Thanks {Blog Hop} 2009...
Thanks to some very amazing artists, over the next week, you will be able to hop around the web and find some amazing projects celebrating Gratitude and Creativity. We are very excited to be bringing you a cross-section of artisans, sharing their stories, creations, and thanks with all of you. Not everyone will post something everyday, but, there will be something somewhere everyday. You will just have to hop around and see what you can find. Each person participating has the full list of attendees posted, so you can hop from each one to another. We hope you find something that inspires you, sparks your creativity, or reminds you to be thankful this Thanksgiving. From our house to yours, please enjoy your week and our gratitude...
My first share this week is a website that you sign up to visit daily or weekly and list what makes you happy or what you are thankful for. This is a great tool for reminding yourself to be positive. I will be posting a project later on and some more fun things through the week. This will help you remember what you are grateful for and that is a good thing.
I am grateful for libraries. I love to read and could never afford to purchase all the books I read or want to read someday. The library is heaven for me. I am thankful for my library card.

I know you have been wondering where I am, well I am enjoying myself here in Cheyenne, Wyoming at the home of Elizabeth Dillow, scrapbooker and hostess extraordinaire. We have been scrapbooking, talking, eating, laughing, and talking some more. I have been reminded of how important it is to spend time with friends.
Take time to make plans to get together with a friend, it is so invigorating and validating, something we all need a healthy dose of before the cold weather sets in.
have a great week

These are turning out to be some of of my favorite posts to compose, maybe I should do it monthly? Let me know if that is a good idea--please
Lots going on in the scrapbooking industry that I think you will be interested in, mostly good.
Let's start with product stuff first
Welcome to the scrapbooking industry Carolyn Gavin- you may not recognize the name, but you will recognize her work. She designs the ecojot notebooks and now she has a product line with K and Company, and it is very bold and happy. A few of my favorite are below. 2peas has it for sale
These border punches from EK Success are innovative and easy to use.
It seems that I cannot keep these in my scrapbook stash, these simple shaped journaling cardstock stickers are so versatile to use on any type of scrapbook project. Great product Adorn It!
Scrapbook subscription kits seem to be going strong still, according to the awesome Scrapclub website, Paisleys and polkadots is the newest kit club and one of the projects are featured in the image below, and it is quite fresh and cute.
For fun project ideas using the Glitz Halloween Hallow line, visit their blog.
Bo Bunny has instructions for this cute altered project below.
Sadly Scenic Route is closing. I hope the best for Sarah Milne and her family. For those of you fans of Scenic Route, they are selling many of their products on their website at huge discounts.
Lain Ehmann is running her LOAD challenge for the month of October, check it out!!
cute Elizabeth Kartchner is teaching an online class that encourages you to journal and photograph you- looks fun.
Paper Crafts magazine is running the World Card Making day this Saturday, read about it here and here

I saved this layout by Stephanie and have been wanting to lift it for awhile and I finally did- I love how it turned out.
In the original layout I was drawn to the excellent use of white space, pleasing combination of patterns and scale, as well as the minimal asymmetrical embellishing.
Thanks for sharing your talent Stephanie!
oh and by the way, I cannot get enough of the Sassafras Blossoms, such great colors!

Can you tell I am missing my former job? One aspect of my job was to spot and track layout design trends. Now I am going to share these with you, my loyal blog readers. These are layout design trends, not product trends, I have always shared these on my blog.
You may already know about edged borders, paper curling, paper piecing, layering, and creative cropping-the two I am sharing have been around for a bit and are being duplicated.
Vertical lines & Cluster of wallet sized photos(with white border)
Vertical Lines
It has always been common and comfortable to line up photos from left to right, but some designers are doing it from top to bottom, and well when done well the look is edgy and inviting.
by the talented Emilie Ahern
Stephanie Howell, she is so talented and does a fantastic job with color and pattern
This layout is by Janna Wilson for April's Scarlet Lime kit.
This one from Doris is simple and easy to follow since the title sandwiches the photo
Photo Clusters
This layout incorporates both vertical design and photo clusters. It is by Lisa Dickinson a pioneer of this design, it helps that she edits and crops her photos so well, and that is she a great photographer.
I think the photo clusters work best when they have a white border. Anyway, just recently discovered this perky scrapbooker, Nichole Duenke, check out her blog- fun stuff and fresh layouts

What trends do you see?

every now and then you come across someone who feels like a long lost friend
when I am around scrapbookers it seems that this happens to me all the time
(I guess we have so much in common) well I met one of these people at CHA-W
outside the press room on the first day of the show. She was with the darling
and super talented Emilie.
As I was chatting with Emilie (me and my soon to be new friend) noticed we had the same color scheme on and then we started chatting, soon to discover she has the best job ever, at the Container Store, and then we couldn't stop the chatting.
What she doesn't know is that I was trying so hard to have a positive attitude and hold my head high as I walked into the trade show and talked about this. My heart was hurting as I faced and continue to face the loss of something I dedicated my life too.
Her happy and friendly chatter lifted me up and somehow, I felt able to hold my head high and face the industry, full of people I care about, with a positive attitude.
So thanks sunshine girl, you saved me that day, I owe you one.
